In 2014, Plants Direct Tasmania was started by Tim and Karen. It started off as a niche nursery with the main range being just ready to eat herbs and micro greens. We discovered that many commonly eaten plants were hard to grow in the Tasmanian climate, so the nursery business was built around the idea that people needed access to ready pick and eat plants in their own home garden.

Within a few months we were selling out of Harvest Market, Launceston and the range had grown. We listened to what people wanted and they were not having a lot of luck with what was on offer around the state. Plants Direct Tasmania aimed to help solve that.

An opportunity to reach out to the southern sector arose and Plants Direct Tasmania  branched out into Farm Gate Market, Hobart in 2016 and quickly discovering that they have their own micro climate that is different to that  in the north of the state. We now supply to each city based on what plants we know will perform at different times of the year.

High health plants are our number one priority. We aim to provide disease and pest free plants, so we have done away with some common practices such as selling raspberry canes. We only sell raspberry plants in pots to prevent soil pathogen transfer using our own quality, disease free potting mix.

Plants Direct Tasmania are part of APPS (Australian Plant Production Standard), so that means that we are regularly audited to maintain the integrity of the stock that we produce.

Plants Direct Tasmania has been producing bush and standard roses since 1998 and using these skills we have increased our skillset to include budding and grafting citrus and other plants. Our team has extensive horticultural experience.

Tim and Karen have over 70 years combined horticultural experience in ornamental, food and fibre production plants in Australia and overseas, so you know your plants are grown by experienced professionals.

Karen has won both a Nuffield Scholarship and the Tasmanian AgriFutures Rural Women's Award and is busy behind the scenes researching and developing new crops.

It is our mission try to keep up with market trends and new products, so if there is something out there you are struggling to find, please contact us and we will see if it is something we can start producing.
