1. Is there a minimum order requirement?
Yes. We have a minimum order of $35 online. All orders are packed into trays and we need to ensure the trays are full to ensure the plants don't move around or get damaged. $35 will generally fill a tray with plants.
2. How do I get my plants?
Although we don't offer delivery at the moment, all orders can be collected from either Harvest Market, Launceston on Saturdays or Farm Gate Market, Hobart on Sundays. You will be able to select your desired pick up location at checkout.
3. What freight options do you have?
Currently we do not offer delivery, however if you are placing an order for say 6 or more standard roses that wouldn't normally fit in the back of your car, you may be able to contact us and put in a special request before ordering. Bear in mind, we are only a small business with limited staff and time, so please don't be offended if cannot accommodate your request.
4. Do you have order cut off times?
Yes. We require time to pack your order onto our truck along with all the other stock that we take each weekend. Orders need to be placed by 10am on Thursday mornings ready for collection on either the Saturday or Sunday. Orders after this time will be required to wait until the following weekend.
5. What is your guarantee and refund policy?
Your plants are covered under our guarantee until you receive them. We cannot be held at fault for plants once they have been planted. You are welcome to contact us for advice but if your plants don't perform for you as expected, this may be due to soil, climate, moisture or a range of other factors. Due to these variables we cannot guarantee the performance of all our plants across the state. Please check out our hints and tip page for help on how to best care for your plants. Due to the time and costs involved in growing plants on our farm, we cannot offer a refund if you just change your mind. The full process takes months and many hours and days go into getting your plants to the sale stage. We only offer refunds for plants we are unable to supply due to circumstances beyond our control.
6. Can I pick up from you direct?
No sorry. We have strict quarantine rules to help protect all of our plants. Too many pathogens and diseases can be transferred through contact with people and vehicles. No outside visitors are allowed on our farm.
7. How come the vegetable seedling such as lettuce and broccoli aren't available to order online?
The $0.50c vegetable seedlings are sold in small tubes that are hard to pack in small quantities safely. It requires 104 of the tubes to fill a tray and most people don't want to purchase large amounts. However if you do require batches of 104, 208, 312 etc of one type of seedling, please contact us to organise in advance. Otherwise please come and see us directly at your local market to see our range and to purchase small amounts.
8. I have placed my order. When can I collect?
All orders received after 10am Thursdays until the following Thursday at 10am, will be available for collection on the next closest Saturday or Sunday (depending on pick up location chosen).
9. Not all the plants that I want are available now. Can you hold my order until they are?
To avoid missing out on plants we can only organise collection for the plants that are currently available, and cannot hold them until others are ready. Plants are generally seasonal and we sell at their peak condition and during times when they are ready to be planted out. Sometimes we wont have plants listed on our website this season at all due to crop failure, so there is no guarantee that plants we usually have, will be available. Our timeframes are only a guide line for when plants will be available, not a guarantee.
10. I want to add plants or to change my order, can I?
Please contact us ASAP if you need to amend your order. All changes need to be made before the 10am Thursday cut off time, or we may have to hold your order until the following weekend. From 10am Thursday we will be busy getting all of the plants ready for the weekend markets, so we won't have time to check changes until the following week.
11. What plants grow where I live?
Tasmania generally has a similar climate throughout the state, however micro climates can vary. Some plants however may require extra protection outside of the summer season for example. Please look at our growing guides and information pages for help.
12. Are you on any social media sites?
Yes. We have a Facebook and Instagram page. Please look for us @plantsdirecttasmania. Or click the links directly at the bottom of any page on this website.
13. How big will my plants be?
We list plants via their pot sizes and try to have photos of plants with a measurement beside them, however this is a work in progress, so not all plants will be shown in this format. We do have a pot size guide you can check out too that will help you to visualise what you are buying.
14. Do you sell gift vouchers?
No sorry. Gift vouchers are not available.
15. Do you charge a fee for me to pick up my plants?
No. There are no freight or collection fees. We transport your plants off the farm to the markets at no cost to you.
16. Can you grow large quantities of the same plant for me?
Yes. If you want a large quantity of a plant for your farm or large garden, please contact us in advance. Some plants may take a few weeks or months to get ready, but in most cases, with enough notice, we can cater to any number.
17. Do you ship to other states or over seas?
Currently we do not offer shipping or delivery outside of Tasmania.
18. Are you at the markets every weekend?
Generally we have a break over the winter months from June to August, as this is a quiet period in the garden. We also have a 2 week break over Christmas and New Years. You will find us at Longford Blooms for 1 weekend in November too, selling large quantities of roses, meaning we won't be attending markets that weekend either.
19. How secure is it to use your online store?
We use the latest security to keep your details safe when shopping online with us.
20. What payment options do you offer?
We have Paypal, Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
21. I haven't received a notification about my order yet. When will I get one?
We send a confirmation email once your order is received and updates along the way. Please ensure that you have entered the correct email address when placing you order. If you have made an error please contact us.
22. Circumstances have changed and I can't collect my order. What can I do?
We understand that life gets busy, so if something happens and you can't make it to the market to collect, please contact us ASAP to organise a different pick up date. We will endeavour to help as much as we can.
23. Can I visit your nursery?
No sorry. We adhere to strict biosecurity rules on our entire property and as such we cannot allow visitors. This ensures your plants are kept happy and safe at all times.
24. What is your pricing policy?
Once you have placed your plant order and received a confirmation, the price will not change either up or down, even if the price changes on our store website. Our prices generally only change once a year on the 1st of July.
25. I have changed my mind on the variety I chose. Can I exchange for a different one?
Due to biosecurity, any plants that have left the market cannot be returned sorry. Plant diseases are too easily transferable and we do not want to risk contaminating any plants on our property with ones that have gone out into the wide world.
26. The plant I want is out of stock. When will you be selling more?
We have put general availability guidelines on each plant, however that is no guarantee of its availability in that time period. Plant propagation can be a little hit in miss in some plants so sometimes we don't always have success. Sometimes plants will sell out early on in the season too and there isn't enough time left to start more off and have them ready before their optimal planting time has ended. In these cases, there will be a wait until the following growing season before we have them again.
27. Do you grow all of your plants from scratch?
Yes. We have a team on site that propagate from cuttings, seeds grafting and from tissue culture in our onsite laboratory. We have many years of knowledge and experience between us and we are always testing the boundaries of what we can do next.
28. Is the pot size listed the height of the plant?
No. The pot size is only the width of the top of the pot that is generally used in nurseries. Heights of plants within each size pot, varies depending on the species and the time of the season. Photos including a ruler are available to give you an idea, but are only a guide to height, not a guarantee.
29. I have been trying to call but no one will answer the phone or it goes straight to voicemail.
We are situated in a poor reception area and as such don't always receive calls. Plus our cool rooms that we frequently work in block signals. We are unable to have a landline due to Telstra being able to supply one to our area, so we do apologise if you can't get through to us. Please go to our contact us page and send us an email and we will endeavour to get back to you ASAP. We are generally available Mon-Fri 8am to 6pm for enquiries. Calls made outside of these hours will be returned the following day.
