Also known as Strawberry Myrtle and Tazzberry, Chilean Guava is a compact evergreen bush that is perfect for adding a touch of colour and life to any garden or yard. This beautiful plant is covered in small glossy, dark green leaves with new growth tinged red, and during summer it is covered in white flowers that are followed by red berries. The Chilean Guava is not only beautiful, but it is also delicious – the berries can be eaten fresh or made into jams and jellies.
This hardy plant thrives in a variety of positions and can tolerate extreme climatic conditions, making it the perfect choice for Tasmania’s climate. It prefers full sun although it will grow and fruit in part shade, and it should be fed with a balanced fertilizer high in nitrogen. Prune in early spring to maintain desired size and shape.
