Also known as edible hibiscus. The fleshy calyx can be used in salads, jams and sauces and dried it can be used for teas. Seeds can be roasted and ground into flour and the young leaves can be steamed or stir fried and are known as Red Sorrel in the Pacific. Plant as early as possible after frosts have passed in order to get fruit as they need at least 5 months of frost free heat to bear fruit.
