Yatsufusa is a traditional Japanese hot chilli variety producing distinctive clusters of slender, upright-growing fruit above the foliage. The chillies are approximately 5–7.5cm long and are produced in clusters, ripening from green to bright red as they mature.
The fruit can be harvested while green or allowed to fully ripen to red. Yatsufusa has a cayenne or Thai chilli-like flavour and is well suited to Asian cooking, including stir-fries, curries and soups. The mature red chillies are also excellent for drying and grinding, and are traditionally used in shichimi togarashi, the popular Japanese seven-spice seasoning.
A compact, productive chilli with attractive upright fruit, Yatsufusa is an excellent choice for pots and smaller growing spaces as well as the vegetable garden.
