Meiwa is a specialty cumquat variety prized for its exceptionally sweet, high-quality fruit. Considered one of the best cumquats for eating fresh, it produces attractive round to slightly oval, golden-orange fruit with a thick, sweet rind and pleasantly tangy flesh. Unlike many cumquats where the sharp flesh provides a strong contrast to the rind, Meiwa has a notably sweeter, milder flavour that makes the whole fruit delicious eaten straight from the tree.
A beautiful and highly ornamental evergreen citrus, Meiwa has dense, glossy green foliage, fragrant white flowers and colourful fruit that can remain on the tree for an extended period. Its naturally compact growth habit makes it an excellent specialty citrus for smaller gardens, courtyards and large pots.
The fruit is superb eaten fresh and can also be used for preserves, marmalades, desserts and garnishes. Its combination of ornamental appeal, compact growth and unusually sweet fruit makes Meiwa a particularly desirable addition to a home citrus collection.
Can be grown in a large pot using a good quality potting mix and watered regularly. Feed during the warmer months with citrus fertiliser. Prune lightly as required to maintain a compact plant around 2m high.
